Singapore LD Creates Picture Perfect Designs

Established in 1990, Art Folio is one of Singapore’s leading visual arts galleries. Its primary focus is to encourage the appreciation of Asian artwork by showcasing a wide variety of local, established visual artists. With each exhibition, the arrangement of art in the gallery must portray the right mood and give due attention to each individual piece.

When Lighting Designer Jonathan Sin was asked to render designs for leading mixed media artist Oh Chai Hoo, he chose wysiwyg. The results were simply spectacular!

Jonathan used wysiwyg to create the detailed lighting and realistic renderings for Hoo’s exhibition titled “Light of the Heart”. The renderings include intricate drawings of each painting and textured images applied to the surfaces in the gallery. While each art piece has its own merit, the artist's central theme conveys a message of hope and life amidst a chaotic world, as symbolized by a globe of light in each of the paintings and ceramic pieces.

"In this particular exhibition, I was able to engage the art pieces in wysiwyg’s virtual world," Jonathan says. “Being able to see and light them up before our set-up day was a huge benefit. From CAD mode to the renders, I was able to foresee sightline problems and determine whether certain lighting positions would glare in the viewer’s eyes,” he adds.

He was also impressed with wysiwyg’s realistic treatment of color. “I was also able to select different tungsten sources so that the painting colors, including gold, coppers, reds, blues, and silvers, would not be jeopardized by bulbs with the wrong color temperatures,” he says.

Jonathan goes further to say “I won the artist’s approval of my lighting designs because I was able to use wysiwyg to give him a virtual look at his exhibition before it even opened.”
